Design Options

How your shirt is made:

It is produced using a process called Dye Sublimation. Most pieces start out as a single section of large white material. This material is then dyed using a ultra high temperature heat press to create one large piece of dyed fabric. All of the smaller pieces (sleeves, collar, front, back, ect.) are then cut out from the larger piece, hemmed, and subsequently sewn together to become the finished product.

WHAT DRAW DO YOU NEED?

Picture this holster as though you are wearing the flat side against your body.  If that is how you are going to need it positioned for your draw, eg. inside a jacket pocket on your strong side or on the inside of a vehicle center console that you can draw from the driver's side, then you would need to order the same draw as if you were wearing it on your waistband, ie. order your strong-side draw. 

If you are going to attach this holster to a surface away from your body, or facing your body, then mimic or visualize your draw from that position, to figure out where the grip will end up and which side you need the velcro on. Some applications would need an opposite side draw than what you'd get if it was on your body - eg. attached on the outside of a vehicle center console on the drivers side (as shown in the main product pic).

With the gun inserted, a right-hand draw flat-back holster will have the velcro (flat side) on the gun's left side. A left-hand draw holster will have the velcro (flat side) on the gun's right side. Ask us if you need guidance on this. 

A NOTE ABOUT RETENTION:

Because of the construction of the holster, there is no adjustable retention or "audible snap" retention. This is impossible when one side of the holster is flat, rather than molded around the gun. There is some retention, you just can't tip the holster upside down, shake it and expect the gun to stay in the holster. So this holster is best suited for hard surfaces or applications where it will remain upright. Some customers do use this holster inside bags and packs, we just want you to be aware of the way the retention is impacted by the flat-back design, so that you can make a good decision about which product is best for you.

For retention that keeps the gun in the holster even when tipped upside down, take a look at the Adhesive Velcro Quick-Ship Holster instead. That ships with loose hook and loop velcro sheets, so you can attach as needed. It also has a lot less kydex material (since it's not designed to be mounted to a surface), so it's better suited for use in bags, packs or pockets.

Now, add a pop of color under your handguard with this heat shield! These heat shields were specifically designed to fit the original series aluminum patterned handguards that we offer on this site. You can view the handguards here. They may not fit other brands of handguards. 

The shield is designed to slide under the handguard and over the 556 castle bolt, and is attached using an end cap (will NOT fit breached-end handguards, eg. Freedom Eagle). 

End cap will accept barrels up to 0.95" in diameter. Choose what style of end cap you prefer - one that has a sprocket with spikes, or a flat sprocket. Get it basic black or add any Cerakote color you wish!

Gas Block Fit: This will work with all low-profile (0.75") gas blocks.

Heat Shield weight with end cap: Roughly 7 oz 

What's included: You are buying a heat shield with end cap and screws only. Handguards are not included.  Need a handguard? Get one here.

So what size heat shield will you need to order to fit your handguard? Keep in mind there is an end cap. The end cap is 1" wide and will need to fully fit into the handguard without interfering with the gas block. So whatever the length of your gas block is from the face of the upper, we need to allow 1" of additional space between the gas tube and the end of the handguard for the end cap. 

These are the general lengths for gas blocks - please check yours:

• Pistol length system is 5.5″ from the face of the upper 
• Carbine length system is 8.5″ from the face of the upper 
• Mid-length system is 10.5″ from the face of the upper
• Rifle length system is 12.625″ from the face of the upper

Add 1" to these above length to allow the heat shield end cap to fit inside the handguard without hitting the gas block. This number is the minimum length your handguard needs to be. 

This means that:

• If 5.5" Pistol length gas system - your handguard must be 6.5"or longer
• If 8.5" Carbine length gas system - your handguard must be 9.5″ or longer
• If 10.5" Mid-length gas system - your handguard must be 11.5" or longer
• If 12.625" Rifle length gas system - your handguard must be 13.625″ or longer

In other words, when selecting a handguard from our Patterned Handguard line:

• Pistol length gas system - this works with all available handguard lengths
• Carbine length gas system- you'll need a 12" or 15" handguard. This heat shield will not work with shorter handguards. 
• Mid-length gas system- you'll need a 12" or 15" handguard. This heat shield will not work with shorter handguards.  
• Rifle-length gas system - you'll need a 15" handguard. This heat shield will not work with shorter handguards.

You also have the option to create a multi-color custom look by combining any number of colors together. We will let you know if you select something that won't work!

• Black is only included in the handguard price if your handguard is one solid color (ie. standard Armor Black). If black is incorporated into a multi-color design, this requires custom application, so black is not included - it becomes one of your custom color selections.

• Bright Purple is a color that only works as a single color application. It does not work in multi-color applications due to its formula. For multi-color designs with purple, please select Wild Purple or Crushed Orchid! 

There are different ways to accomplish multi-color application:

COLOR-MATCHING PARTS: 

If you already have colored parts that you are trying to match your handguard to, achieving a precise color match will be tricky. Even if the same color is used, every Cerakote application can have slight but noticeable color differences. We suggest trying to complement or contrast colors rather than matching. Alternatively, have all parts Cerakoted together - get your handguard from us raw (no color) for Cerakoting elsewhere. Unfortunately we don't Cerakote parts other than the handguard and its hardware/accessories.

These molded kydex trigger-guard covers are made to protect the entire trigger-guard area of your firearm.  They could be used when you want to carry your firearm but are not able to carry it in a holster. They also work great if you're staging your firearm off-body and want it immediately accessible but with a protected trigger guard.  

We include 2 feet of black 550 paracord attached to the kydex holster, to aid in the removal of the cover.  Simply jerk down on the cord and the cover comes off the trigger guard or attach the cord to something firm and pull the firearm away from the cover.

MODELS:  More than 250 gun models to choose from, but this holster style is not available for models with lasers or lights as this minimalist design does not support the extra weight.

TIP - Loosening retention: If you prefer a looser fit for your cover, put your gun in a food storage bag (or any thick plastic bag). Insert your gun and bag into the cover. Using a hair dryer gently warm the cover until you feel it begin to relax. Allow the cover to cool with the gun and bag still inside it.

• Compact size has slightly textured surface.

• Screws: Your stock screws will fit these grips 
• What size grips do you need? If your grip height is 5.25" (height 90 degrees to barrel center), you have a full-size grip frame. Less than that is a compact.  Full-size 1911 will have a screw hole spacing (center-to-center) of approximately 3 1/16”.  The same spacing on the compact model 1911 will be about 2 11/16”.

Laser Engraving Process:  

• Fiber Laser engraving process.
• Resulting image will not ever wear off, as it is etched into the top layer of the plate.
• We do not put color down on the surface of the plate, we actually engrave into it, so colored images are not possible. 
• The engraved image will be a silvery-white tone on the black and colored plates, and a charcoal tone on the chrome plate. View the product images to get an idea of how it will look.

• Black and white line drawings or graphics work best.
• Two-color graphics will also work.
• Clip Art style designs are best, without a lot of small detail.
• If your image contains shading or gradients, we can't engrave it.
• If it's a photo, we can't engrave it. 
• If you are unsure about whether your graphic will work, contact us before ordering - if we can't make it work, we can usually come up with some alternative suggestions. 

• For custom text, we will use a basic font like Arial unless you request something different.
• If your font choice is a standard Word font, simply give us the font name.
• If it is not a basic Word font, or if you want something fancy, browse free font sites (like www.1001freefonts.com), use their preview box to type up your text in the font you want, take a screenshot or save it as an image file to preserve the font, eg. jpeg, pdf, gif, png, tiff and upload it as a custom graphic.
• Watch out for very curly script fonts - those can be hard to read.
• We can also add text or numbers to any graphic from the gallery below.
